This week I'm preparing for the Climacus Conference taking place February 24th and 25th at St. Michael Orthodox Church in Louisville, KY. The theme this year is Byzantium and the speakers include Kyriacos Markides, Dr. David Bradshaw, Dr. Daniel Larison and more. Topics covered will range from Byzantine mystical spirituality, science and iconography to St. Maximos, Tarkovsky's film, The Stalker, and Patriarch Sophronios of Jerusalem. And what could I possibly be talking about at a conference such as this you may be wondering? It's a fair question, for sure!
My own brief and humble presentation will reflect on why studying the past is essential for even a present day harried mother of four in terms of persevering in my faith. I am honored to participate and so looking forward to taking in all of the lectures. Are you coming? I'd love to see you there!!
Anyway, because of that, and school volunteer stuff, my kitchen looks like this:
As does the rest of my house. And that's how it goes: there is a time to clean, a time to write, a time to chaperone fieldtrips and school parties. I pray this new week is a peaceful week, anchored in love and prayer and gratitude and resilience, for all of us.
And just for fun, here is a video my girls made on Saturday that makes me happy - just so darn thankful for being a mother and an aunt:
Goodnight all!
